R2 Technology Completes CAD Suite With Launch of Imagechecker(R) LS for Low Volume Mammography Sites

R2's Gold Standard CAD(TM) Technology Now Available in a Tabletop System

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 2 - R2 Technology, Inc., the leader in medical computer aided detection (CAD), today announced the introduction of the ImageChecker(R) LS CAD system, designed exclusively for low volume film-based mammography sites. The ImageChecker LS is a flexible, component-based system, which can integrate seamlessly into any low volume practice. The system features R2's Gold Standard CAD(TM) technology in a unique tabletop package.

"Nearly eight years ago, R2 Technology pioneered computer aided detection for the earlier detection of breast cancer. Since then, more than 1,500 systems have been shipped and this year more than 8 million mammograms will be interpreted with the aid of the R2 ImageChecker CAD system," said John Pavlidis, President and CEO of R2 Technology. "The introduction of the ImageChecker LS marks a milestone every bit as significant -- now every mammography center in the United States can afford the clinical benefits of R2's Gold Standard CAD(TM), regardless of volume. This is an important segment of the market that R2 has previously not addressed."

A cost-effective option for low volume sites, the ImageChecker LS processes a case of four mammogram films in just a few minutes and the results of the CAD analysis can be viewed on any of R2's display solutions, including the CheckMate(TM) Ultra flat panel monitor, or be sent to a printer. The tabletop system will also be able to leverage all of R2's advanced workflow and display features, such as connection to mammography reporting systems and PeerView(TM) software. The software features are fully upgradeable.

Computer-aided detection is used by increasing numbers of radiologists as "a second pair of eyes" when reading a mammogram. Clinical trials demonstrated that use of the ImageChecker(R) CAD system could result in earlier detection of up to 23.4 percent of the cancers currently detected with screening mammography. The ImageChecker system from R2 Technology was the first CAD system approved by the FDA for use with mammography. Since 1998, R2 Technology has received 15 supplemental approvals for technological advances designed to improve the clinical applications of CAD for mammography.
