Forthnet's new service will transfer video content from stadiums or any other fixed locations across the country over its FO network to the Nova media center in Athens. The solution was delivered in close cooperation with T-VIPS' Greek Partner OmniWave Ltd and was chosen after extensive field trials.

"We are extremely happy to have been chosen by Forthnet to provide our IP-based video transport solution for the implementation of the new "TV Circuits On Demand" service that will be used, in the first phase, for the broadcast of Greece's premier football league," said Johnny Dolvik, CEO, T-VIPS. "Exciting projects such as this are very satisfying to work on and demonstrate that we deliver efficient technologies that also provide the flexibility to handle future broadcaster needs. Given our wide experience in sports video transport we bring both best-in-class technology and expertise to the project and look forward to ensuring football fans enjoy fantastic coverage of Greece's best soccer action."

Nova is a digital satellite PayTV platform owned by Forthnet Group. The Group constitutes of Forthnet, the largest private broadband company in Greece, as well as Forthnet Media Holdings and Multichoice Hellas (Nova), the largest private providers of radio-television subscription services in the country. The Group now holds the broadcasting rights for TV, internet, mobile and radio transmission, covering the territories of Greece, Cyprus and Albania, and all sixteen Super League teams.

"The TVG450 JPEG2000 Gateway solution will allow Forthnet to transport video over IP in an extremely cost effective way whilst ensuring the soccer coverage remains of the highest quality," said Mr. Dimitris Papazafeiropoulos, CTO of Forthnet. "It is a great advantage that the solution is future proofed, providing us with an upgrade path for 3D and 3G/1080p video when the time is right. In addition, the flexible configuration capability of the TVG450, allowing simultaneous use as both an encoder and decoder, provides us with an extremely powerful solution for our live broadcasts".
