T-VIPS Demos Advances in Reliable Video Transport Over IP with New Products, NAB Conference Presentation, and Customer Wins

At NAB 2012, T-VIPS, a global leader in professional video transport solutions for contribution, distribution, and Digital Terrestrial Television, will reinforce its standing as providers of best-of-breed solutions for reliable video transport over IP networks with the U.S. debut of the TNS544 Transport Stream over IP Switch and the announcement of high-profile customer wins. The recent sales feature the company's Video Gateway solutions with JPEG2000 compression and provide real-time integrity monitoring of IP streams and Transport Stream content. T-VIPS will exhibit in booth SU7907 at the NAB show.

T-VIPS has pioneered the development of products that ensure high-quality, glitch-free video delivery over IP for live broadcasting applications and post production workflows. Judging by recent sales in the U.S. to Azzurro HD, MTI Film, a leading global provider of IP-based video services, and a premiere sports organization, the use of video-centric IP networks for the backhaul of live events has grown in popularity and in its range of applications.

"IP networks have become increasingly attractive for broadcast content delivery particulary when combined with JPEG2000 compression solutions," said Janne Morstol, COO, T-VIPS. "The winning combination of JPEG2000 compression with IP-based video transport ensures the reliable delivery of HD and 3D video with very low latency, superb picture quality, and without degradation of the image after encoding and decoding. We're seeing a much greater understanding among Service Providers and broadcasters of the benefits IP offers for professional video transport."

T-VIPS provides operators offering managed video services with a variety of features for improved performance and enhanced Quality of Service, including: monitoring that continuously checks all inputs and outputs, buffering, freeze frame techniques, and signal synchronization solutions that enable intelligent redundancy switch-over of Transport Streams. Service providers, operators, and broadcasters can now monitor, correct, conceal, backup and seamlessly switch to the best signal to deliver flawless content over video-centric IP networks.

Dr. Helge Stephansen, CTO, T-VIPS, will present a paper, "Reliable Networking Solutions for Television Distribution over IP," at the 2012 NAB Show Broadcast Engineering Conference (BEC) on April 16th. Dr. Stephansen will discuss the tools available for video transport over IP and how they can be best used to improve performance and enable real-time, high-quality, low latency video transport. Dr. Stephansen's presentation will address forward error correction, error concealment, and advanced solutions where dual feeds are combined with diversity reception or seamless switching to deliver enhanced robustness and increase Quality of Service (QoS).

As further demonstration of T-VIPS' commitment to reliable IP video transport, comes the new TNS544 TSoIP (Transport Stream over IP) Switch. Making its U.S. debut at NAB, the TNS544 enables operators and broadcasters to migrate from ASI to IP without loss in quality or reliability, while gaining the benefits in flexibility and running costs that IP delivers. It provides intelligent redundancy switch-over between MPEG Transport Streams and ensures the robust transmission of high-quality video by continuously monitoring all inputs, and switching seamlessly to the back-up stream if errors are detected or a signal is lost. With this new product, network operators can conserve resources while simultaneously delivering glitch-free services. Potential customers include: telecommunication and satellite operators, broadcasters using IP infrastructures, and digital terrestrial broadcasters.

The recent launch of two products for advanced digital terrestrial networks, the TNS547 DTT Monitor for DVB-T and DVB-T2 Networks and the CP330 T2-Bridge, enhance T-VIPS' position as a leading innovator in Digital Terrestrial Television solutions. The TNS547 continuously monitors transport streams, services, and components as well as PSI/SI tables. With the TNS547, terrestrial operators can monitor their network, detect errors, and take corrective actions before their viewers experience any problems. The T-VIPS' nSure product portfolio now enables "end-to-end" monitoring - from the head-end to the RF signals at the transmitter - delivering a complete toolset and ensuring first-class QoS.

The CP330 offers a flexible solution for operators to cost-effectively insert local content in SFN networks - easily. It offers network operators great flexibility in how they design their distribution networks and how they insert regional and local content. The T2 Bridge enables the distribution of signals to digital terrestrial transmitters using satellite or hybrid (satellite, fiber and microwave) infrastructures. With the T-VIPS CP330, it is now possible to reuse a Direct To Home (DTH) satellite signal to directly feed terrestrial transmitters. By utilizing the DTH satellite and the advanced deterministic multiplexing processes of the CP330, terrestrial operators now have a highly cost-effective distribution solution that is SFN compliant. The CP330 T2 Bridge has been field-tested at major DVB-T2 reference sites and is ready to ship.

T-VIPS will also show its JPEG2000 and MPEG4 Video Gateways designed for live contribution. The recently introduced TVG650, an MPEG-4 Contribution Encoder, and the TVG610, an MPEG-4 Contribution Decoder, are part of T-VIPS' Video Gateway line of products. They handle the encoding and decoding of MPEG-4, 4:2:2, 10-bit video, and support output on ASI and IP/Ethernet. A key element of the NAB demonstrations will be T-VIPS' Connect management system, which provides an intuitive, web-based solution for the set-up and monitoring of equipment and connections in broadcasting, contribution and IP video transport networks.
