Original Press Release:

New Module has Freescale i.MX51 with 800MHz ARM Cortex-A8

TRITON-TX51 measures just 68mm x 26mm

Oxfordshire, England: Direct Insight has introduced a tiny system-on-module based on Freescale's new i.MX51 device which features an 800MHz ARM Cortex-A8 core with NEON Floating Point Unit, PowerVR graphics engine and hardware-implemented video codec with up to 720p resolution support. Both Windows CE 6.0 and Linux 2.6 are supported.
TRITON-TX51 is a 68 x 26mm 200-pin SODIMM module operating from a single 3.0 - 5.5v supply, and provides 128MB mobile DDR400 RAM, and 128MB NAND Flash, as well as power management, and an external real-time clock.

The new module provides a wide range of connectivity including USB 2.0 On-The-Go and Host, with full high-speed functionality and backward compatibility. The Image Processing Unit includes a CMOS sensor input, 24-bit LCD controller, and TV out, with a 720p MPEG-4/H264 decoder. Encode is supported at D1 resolution at 30fps. A 10/100 Ethernet controller is complemented by two high speed SDIO/SD Card ports, and a range of serial and parallel interfaces including I2C, SPI, I2S, 1-Wire, PWM and others. The i.MX51's PowerVR graphics controller enables OpenGL ES 2.0 implementation, and accelerates a wide range of graphics applications and UI tools, including Microsoft's Silverlight and Adobe Flash Lite.

In development the TRITON-TX51 plugs into the StarterKit-5 development system, which brings all 200 SODIMM pins to headers, and provides a wide range of connectors including Ethernet, SD Card, USB Host and OTG and JTAG. The system ships with Windows CE 6.0 or Linux. A Linux BSP will also follow.

TRITON-TX51 is available from January 2010 from Direct Insight, pricing is expected to be around 150 Euros.
