System Builder Software Tool helps user create software.

Press Release Summary:

Application and Configuration Environment Software (ACES) Tool allows user to generate application by graphically connecting software elements in form of graphical blocks, configuring those blocks, assigning I/O to appropriate hardware components, and generating files that can be programmed into electronic control unit (ECU). It facilitates creation of application system software and enables system engineer to program ECU for specific OEM application.

New Cat Electronics System Builder Tool Allows User to Easily Create Software

A new system builder software tool that enables the user to easily create application system software is being unveiled by Caterpillar Electronics and Electrical Systems (Cat Electronics) at the International Construction & Utility Exposition (ICUEE), Sept. 27-29, in Louisville, KY.

"The Application & Configuration Environment Software (ACES) Tool will allow the user to generate an application by graphically connecting software elements in the form of graphical blocks, configuring those blocks, assigning I/O to the appropriate hardware components, and generating a file that can be programmed into an electronic control unit (ECU)", Geoffrey Ginzel, Cat Electronics Commercial Systems Engineering Manager said. "Different levels of block functionality are available depending upon the requirements of the OEM. Additional advanced blocks, if needed, can be created by Cat Electronics and imported directly into the tool."

Through the easy-to-use new system builder tool, OEMs will be able to access Cat Electronics proven and tested software to build applications and create customized fundamental blocks. The tool is the first part of a suite that has many configuration options. In addition, the new tool:
o Allows the user to create custom software independently of Cat Electronics while also protecting their own Intellectual Property
o Dramatically reduces software development time
o Promotes reuse of software ensuring quality and reliability
o Enables a system engineer to program an ECU for a specific OEM application

According to Brian Uhlenhake, Cat Electronics Sales Development Manager, many OEMs and customers have approached Cat Electronics to provide a tool to build applications for the controls they buy from Cat. "A key benefit of the new system builder tool suite is that the user does not need to be an electrical engineer or an expert in computer science to build an application or solution and put it into production," acknowledged Uhlenhake.
