Original Press Release:

ORAFOR "K" Synthetic Forging Lubricant

CONDAT Corporation has developed a non-graphite, water-based lubricant for forging operations which want to improve their environment and eliminate the mess involved when using graphite lubricants. ORAFOR "K" offers performance characteristics of a graphite forging lubricant using unique chemistry. ORAFOR "K" synthetic forging lubricant is used in heavy-duty press operations as well as upsetting equipment.

The synthetic lubricant has been formulated to forge difficult parts ranging in size from a few ounces to 20 pounds or more. ORAFOR "K" has no flashpoint (water-based), does not smoke and has no odor. Easy to clean, the ORAFOR "K" provides good metal movement and surface finish.

ORAFOR "K" provides benefits not found in older synthetics. It will lay down a film on the tooling under a wide range of temperatures and conditions. This "wetting" characteristic ensures good die protection. ORAFOR "K" unlike previously offered synthetics has improved friction reduction due to its unique layering effect. As in any forging lubricant, the resistance to heat and abrasion are essential, particularly hot forging @ 1100°C (2000°F), ORAFOR "K" protects tooling with anti-oxidant additives.

This unique synthetic forging lubricant is easily diluted with potable water. There is no settling of the concentrate and no mixing is required. Dilution ratios depend on the part difficulty, but range from 1:5 to 1:15 (forging lubricant:water). Application can be swab or spray. Spray application is recommended due to the uniform film it provides. ORAFOR "K" will not plug nozzles or damage application and delivery systems used in the forging processes.
