Sipex Expands 12V Synchronous Controller Family



(Milpitas, CA - December 15, 2003) - Sipex Corporation (NASDAQ: SIPX), a leading provider of high performance, analog integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the SP6134 and SP6137, two new high power, high efficiency, synchronous step-down controllers for 12V applications.

Extending Sipex's family of 12V solutions, these devices reduce external component size by offering higher frequency operation of 600KHz for the SP6134 and 900KHz for the SP6137.

Similar to the recently announced SP6132, the SP6134 and SP6137 are available in a MSOP package and include all provisions for loop stability and soft-start, making them the cost effective choice for a broad range of applications including graphics cards, telecom equipment, and other 12V distributed power systems.

The two devices utilize a highly efficient PWM architecture that drives dual NFET switches with efficiencies as high as 94%. They feature a programmable output voltage range down to 0.8V and maintain 1.5% accuracy over a wide range of line, load, and temperature conditions. Internal 2A gate drivers provide load current capability of up to 15A.

The SP6134 and SP6137 are available over the commercial 0°C to 70°C temperature range in a MSOP package. Pricing begins at $1.50 for the SP6134 and $1.75 for the SP6137 each in 1000 piece quantities. Samples and evaluation boards are also available to assist in the evaluation of the devices.
