Micrel Launches Fastest Transient Performance, Highest Efficiency 4MHz 500mA Synchronous Buck Regulators Featuring Hyper Light Load(TM)
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 13 -- Micrel Inc., (NASDAQ:MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today launched the MIC23050/1, two ultra-fast transient performance and high efficiency 4 MHz, 500mA synchronous buck (step- down) regulators assembled in a tiny 2mm x 2mm MLF(R) package. These devices utilize a novel and patented switching scheme that offer best-in-class light load efficiency and industry-leading transient performance. The devices use the smallest inductors in their class and provide very low output ripple at all loads. The unique combination of features makes these devices the perfect choice for today's portable applications where high efficiency, fast dynamic response, low output noise and a small solution size are critical. Target applications include cellular phones, portable media players, GPS systems, WiMax modules, digital still and video cameras and USB peripherals. The MIC23050 is available in volume with pricing starting at $1.20 for 1K quantities and the MIC23051 starting at $1.30 for 1K quantities.

The MIC23050/51 offers an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, preset output voltage options from 0.6V to 2.5V, and a low quiescent current of only 20uA. The MIC23051 also features voltage scaling where an active signal can dynamically lower the output voltage reducing the sleep mode power draw by the circuit being powered, saving even more power and increasing stand-by time of portable applications. The MIC23050/51 are available in a tiny 8-pin 2mm x 2mm MLF(R) with a junction operating range from -40 deg C to +125 deg C.
