Patton Ships First-in-Class G.SHDSL Sync-Serial Router

World's First Sync-Serial G.SHDSL Router Offers Easy Migration to Broadband Networking

GAITHERSBURG, Md., May 31 / / -- Patton Electronics -- the leader in network-access, connectivity, and VoIP solutions -- announces their triple- port G.SHDSL broadband-access router with built-in synchronous-serial and Ethernet interfaces is now shipping.

The low-cost customer-premise router allows carriers and service providers to consolidate their network by retiring outdated frame-relay equipment so they can leverage the value of their new IP-centric infrastructures.

"Today's carriers want to push everything over Ethernet-IP," said Joseph Gomez, Senior Product Manager. "That strategy is the driver behind Patton's latest innovation. We do the frame-relay-to-IP conversion right there, at the customer site."

The ipRocketLink(tm) Model 3087 (http://tinyurl.com/pz8o3) is the first- and-only broadband-access router that delivers bridged or routed network- access for both sync-serial and packet-based user applications concurrently -- over a single high-speed G.SHDSL line.

"The Model 3087 moves the industry another step closer to the goal," Mr. Gomez added, "The consolidated, cost-saving, Ethernet/IP/MPLS network."

The new ipRocketLink(tm) router features two fully-integrated user ports - - a standard 10/100 Ethernet port and a V.35, X.21 or T1/E1 synchronous-serial port -- in addition to the G.SHDSL broadband-access port supporting rates up to 2.3 Mbps. Data from both user ports can be routed or bridged over the G.SHDSL line using a frame-relay or PPP connection.

By delivering dual services over a single G.SHDSL line, providers can use the new ipRocketLink(tm) to retain customers who are happy with their existing frame-relay-based applications and want to keep their old serial-port routers. Providers can offer the single-line service at a much lower rate than subscribers would otherwise pay for two separate lines.

All models in Patton's ipRocketLink(tm) series feature remote management and field-upgradeable software that reduce expenses for carrier-providers by streamlining deployment, operations and maintenance activities.
