Switching Regulator targets always-on standby applications.

Press Release Summary:

Designed for direct AC line operation, Model SR10 can be internally programmed at 6, 12, or 24 V, or can be externally adjusted with feedback divider from 6-28 V. Output current can be scaled via safety-rated, series coupling capacitor on AC line. IC also uses capacitor to meet voltage safety standards for load. Available in RoHS-compliant, 8-lead SOIC package, shunt regulator features standby power consumption of less than 20 mW and is suited for utility meters, A/V, or white goods.

Supertex Introduces Off-Line, Scalable Output, Inductorless Switching Regulator

SR10 Meets Low Power Standby Requirements in "Always On" Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif., - Supertex, Inc. (Nasdaq GS: SUPX), a recognized leader in high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the SR10, a capacitor-coupled, switched shunt regulator for direct AC line operation. Its standby power consumption is very low, making it ideal for "always on" standby applications like utility meters, audio/video, or white goods.

The IC operates at high efficiency while requiring no magnetic components or high voltage electrolytic capacitors. Its output can be internally programmed at 6V, 12V or 24V, or can be externally adjusted with a feedback divider from 6V to 28V.
Output current can be scaled via a safety-rated, series coupling capacitor on the AC line. Typical standby power consumption is less than 20mW. The SR10 also uses the safety-rated, high voltage capacitor to meet voltage safety standards for the load. The SR10 solution also meets class B limits for conducted emission.

"The SR10 is ideal for applications where a conventional switch mode power supply would be too expensive and where an inefficient capacitor-zener solution wouldn't meet standby power requirements," states Hernan DeGuzman, Vice President of Marketing for Supertex. "The flexibility of a fixed or adjustable output voltage spanning a wide range from 6 to 24 volts gives designers more freedom in circuit design for low power standby applications."

The SR10 is available in a RoHS-compliant, 8-lead SOIC package (SR10LG-G). Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing for the SR10LG-G is US$0.69 in 1K quantities.
