Square D/Schneider Electric's HVL/cc® 5-17.5kV Switchgear Now Available With 1200A Continuous Current Rating

Special features capture more data, more easily

PALATINE, Ill. - Nov.12, 2002 - The industry's most compact switchgear now provides increased capacity with a 1200 A continuous current rating at 5-17.5 kV. The increased amp capacity of the HVL/cc® Medium Voltage Metal-Enclosed Switchgear from Square D/Schneider Electric allows a greater range of applications.

"HVL/cc is an ideal switch solution for main-feeder, main-tie-main lineups," said Anthony Sawyer, switchgear product specialist with Square D/Schneider Electric. "It's also ideal for applications in automotive, food and beverage, microelectronic, petrochemical and pharmaceutical plants; health care facilities; schools and universities; and commercial buildings."

HVL/cc's compact design allows the user to cut costs by reducing the space required for electrical equipment. Isolated bus, cable, and main switch compartments prevent inadvertent access to live parts while changing fuses, leaving no need to add internal barriers. HVL/cc switchgear's switch contacts and over toggle mechanism (OTM) require no maintenance. Unlike conventional metal enclosed switchgear, HVL/cc switchgear requires no lubrication, reducing downtime for routine maintenance. Its electrical life has been increased to 26 full loads operations and 1000 mechanical operations.

HVL/cc switchgear provides as much as twice the electrical and mechanical life of air switches and exceeds ANSI requirements. Its simplified grounding system eliminates the need for ground bails, studs, and cable clamps, reducing the time to ground a distribution system. An automatic transfer system provides fast switch transfer for duplex switch applications having main utility sources and alternate backup power sources.

The optional H.VIR COMET infrared inspection window in HVL/cc switchgear provides permanent access for electrical component inspection without disturbing operations. Specially developed for infrared inspections, the window is made of a glass-like material that is transmissive for infrared rays. It is a UL-recognized component for NEMA Type 3 and Type 12 equipment, and is available in 2-inch, 3-inch and 4-inch diameters for either shortwave or longwave transmission.

HVL/cc switchgear can be specified with POWERLOGIC® circuit monitors and Ethernet communications devices as part of Square D/ Schneider Electric's Transparent Ready(TM) power equipment family. When specified as Transparent Ready, the power equipment is provided with a factory configured "plug and play" communications system that allows the authorized user access to equipment status and monitoring information using only a standard web browser. With Transparent Ready HVL/cc the user can increase uptime by capturing data at the onset of system problems, such as drops in system voltage levels and overload conditions in load current levels so problems can be found and solved quickly.
