NKK Switches Releases New Tamper Resistant 22mm Pushbuttons

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Dec. 4, 2008) - NKK Switches, the world's leading designer and manufacturer of innovative electromechanical switching devices, today announced the availability of the new YB2 Series of 22mm pushbuttons offered in both illuminated and non-illuminated models. These tamper resistant, 22mm panel seal switches are suited for applications in public locations or where there is a need for greater protection from environmental conditions, including medical equipment and industrial and commercial control panels.

Features for the YB2 pushbuttons include tamper resistant, flush mount, panel seal and super low profile. The dust-tight and splash-proof panel seal design protects the YB2 series against low pressure jets of water from all directions and meets IP65 of IEC60529 standards.

At 1.8mm, these pushbuttons have one of the shortest above panel dimensions in the industry. Unique among its competitors, the YB2 Series exhibits a short behind-the-panel body measuring only 24.5mm. In addition, the series has a tamper resistant 19mm actuator with a distinctive long stroke and user-friendly actuation.

"The YB2 Series of panel-sealed pushbutton switches are rich in features and options with pricing that is competitive," said Bob Wanless, senior product specialist at NKK Switches. "With the YB2 Series, NKK has simplified the entire process of sampling, selecting and ordering industry standard 22mm panel seal pushbuttons to help eliminate errors and save time. And unlike competitive solutions, the YB2 comes fully assembled making it easy for engineers to easily and quickly install into their designs."

Design engineers can choose either power-rated or logic-level options. Ratings are 3A @ 125V AC, 3A @250V AC or 3A @ 30V DC for power models, and 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum for logic-level versions. Available in SPDT and DPDT momentary or maintained action, this series provides crisp actuation through the snap-action contact mechanism, which helps ensure clear circuit status. Terminals are combination solder lug and .110" quick connect. The epoxy seal locks out flux, dust, solvents and other contaminants, as well as securing the terminals for contact stability.

Illuminated models feature bright or superbright LEDs available in blue, white, red, green or amber, with matching color caps and built in ballast resistors. Custom legends on the actuator are available upon request. Bezel options are silver or black. Choice of cap colors for non-illuminated models includes white, red, green, yellow or metallic silver for enhanced panel design.

The YB2 series has a flammability rating of UL94V0 and is cULus Recognized. Mechanical life is 1,000,000 operations minimum for momentary circuits, and 200,000 operations minimum for maintained circuits. Electrical life is 100,000 operations minimum.
