Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), Cranston, RI, announces the new QuickSwitch® Models 4183 and 4173. Both models offer 1300nm, ST Duplex, Multimode, 100 Base FX Fiber Optic ports. Built in fiber optic / copper medium conversion allows access to two separate fiber optic ports (A and B) from a Fast Ethernet RJ45 port. Switch positions may be controlled via a front-panel pushbutton or remotely from an RS-232 (DB9) serial port.

Pushbutton control eliminates the need to plug and unplug fiber optic patchcords. Remote switching from either unit is accomplished by connecting to any standard RS232 port on a computer and then utilizing any common terminal emulation software (i.e. WINDOWS95 Hyperterminal software) to access the unit's remote serial port. The units differ in that Model 4173 is ruggedized-for-vibration with a MIL type power connector and mating cable supplied with unit.
