Foundry's FastIron® GS Series Delivers Highest Density Class 3 Power Over Ethernet VoIP Solution in Stackable Form

FastIron GS Series Tops Industry With 48 Class 3 POE Ports on Compact VoIP-ready Switch Upgradeable with High Capacity 10-Gigabit Ethernet

LAS VEGAS, May 1 -- Foundry Networks®, Inc. (NASDAQ:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today introduced the FastIron GS Series family of compact edge switches. The FastIron GS Series line of compact switches is a new generation of Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches designed for cost- effective and high-performance convergence at the network's edge. This product family is ideal for organizations looking for the convenience and scaling benefits of a compact switch in a stackable form with the option to expand to 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10-GE) for high capacity connectivity to the network backbone.

Featuring modular upgradeability for 10/100/1000 Mbps PoE, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and redundant power in a 1.5U high form, the FastIron GS Series provides enterprise organizations with a flexible and reliable solution for enabling wireless LAN, Voice over IP (VoIP) and high-speed networking at the network edge.

"We're seeing that 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connections will soon eclipse 10/100 Mbps at the network edge; this also holds true for Power over Ethernet ports," said Steven Schuchart, analyst for Current Analysis. "An edge solution that delivers 10/100/1000 Mbps today with upgradeability to PoE and wire-speed 10-GE provides enterprises a future-ready investment, eliminating 'fork-lift' upgrades to PoE and 10-GE in the future."

The trend towards network convergence is driving the need for high availability solutions. The FastIron GS Series features 1+1 power redundancy using hot-swappable and field replaceable power modules that install into the rear of the unit. Additionally, the FastIron GS 648P-POE support up to 48 10/100/1000 Mbps Class 3 PoE ports -- the highest Class 3 PoE port density in its class.

"Enterprise customers are rapidly moving towards total IP convergence and are looking for flexible edge solutions that can meet their convergence needs without compromising on performance and reliability," said Bob Schiff, vice president and general manager of Foundry's Enterprise Business Unit. "The FastIron GS Series provides enterprise organizations with a scalable, convergence-ready solution in a form that features the benefit of a "pay-as- you-grow" architecture. Featuring high-density power over Ethernet, redundant power, 10-GE upgradeability, the FastIron GS delivers the scalability, quality of service assurance, resilience and VoIP-readiness our customers need to implement a high-value converged solution that can scale to meet future growth at the edge."
