Switch transfers loads without power disruptions.

Press Release Summary:

Series 7000 system consists of closed-transition transfer switch and controller. It synchronizes and parallels onsite and utility power sources to softly transfer load from utility source to onsite generation unit, avoiding transients caused by block loading generator. Communication ports provide Internet and intranet access for SiteWeb(TM) Web-enabled command and control interconnectivity. Switch is available in ampere ratings from 200 to 4000.

New ASCO Soft Load Power Transfer Switch Ensures Continuous, Reliable Power

Seamlessly transfers loads without momentary power disruptions or surges

LAS VEGAS, NV, December 11, 2001-The ASCO 7000 Series Soft Load Power Transfer Switch helps ensure continuous, reliable power for critical operations and processes by seamlessly transferring
loads between two power sources, without momentary power disruptions or surges.

The power transfer switch routinely synchronizes and parallels onsite and utility power sources to softly transfer the load from the utility source to the onsite generation unit, avoiding transients caused by block loading the generator. The result is higher power reliability and incomparable power management for hospitals, data centers, Internet 'hotels,' airports, retail stores and other facilities.

Power management flexibility provided by the switch satisfies a broad range of power applications, such as peak shaving, islanding, base loading and importing/exporting power.

Switch components include a proven ASCO Closed-Transition Transfer Switch to transfer loads and a Controller. The Controller automatically starts the engine and controls load transfer to an onsite power source in the event of a utility power outage. It actively synchronizes the onsite generating unit to the utility source by automatically adjusting the generating unit's governor and voltage regulator (analog or pulse width modulated outputs control the governor}. The controller monitors under/over voltage and frequency of both the preferred and alternate power sources.

This component also actively controls relative phase angle to synchronize the utility feeder and onsite power sources. It also displays and produces a time-and-date-stamped log of all system events and alarms.

Communication ports provide Internet and intranet access for exclusive ASCO SiteWeb(TM) Web-enabled command and control interconnectivity. SiteWeb(TM) permits monitoring, controlling and alarming over the Internet, intranets, or Modbus networks via Ethernet, serial and modem interfaces. An intuitive, touch-screen GUI (graphical user interface) Panel displays at-a-glance operational status and enables users to monitor and set all functions quickly and easily.

Other components include two Power Managers, one each for the utility and onsite power sources, which include protective relay functions for reliable parallel operation.

Features include eight programmable user inputs for setting alarming or signaling conditions of external devices, such as low oil pressure or high engine temperature. Three levels of password protection optimize security.

The 7000 Series Soft Load Power Transfer Switch is listed to Underwriter Laboratories 1008, the standard for transfer switch equipment. The switch is available in ampere ratings of 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1600, 2000, 3000 and 4000.

The soft load power transfer switch also is available as a bypass-isolation power transfer switch and as a service entrance rated power transfer switch.
