UTC Aerospace Systems Introduces High Resolution Snapshot SWIR Camera

CHARLOTTE, N.C., - UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), will introduce its next generation Sensors Unlimited shortwave infrared (SWIR) digital video camera at AUVSI Unmanned Systems North America Exhibition, Aug. 6 to 9, in Las Vegas, Nev.

This high-resolution, indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) mil-rugged digital video camera features 30Hz full-frame rate and adds snapshot mode capability to the Sensors Unlimited high-definition SWIR product range. The camera, model GA1280JS features 30Hz full frame-rate with a global shutter function, featuring a high-sensitivity of 1.3 megapixel resolution at 1280 x 1024 pixels and a 12.5 micron pitch.

The camera is lightweight (less than 120 grams or 4 ounces without lens) and compact (less than 4.5 cubic inches or 74 cubic centimeters), allowing for easy integration into aerial, mobile and hand-held imaging systems. It provides real-time daylight to low-light imaging (including partial moonlight) in the SWIR with high sensitivity in the 0.9 to 1.7 µm microns. The optional NIR/SWIR model operates from 0.5 to 1.7 µm spectrum. The InGaAs-SWIR sensor images through atmospheric obscurants such as smoke, fog, and haze. All-solid-state, the J-series cameras require no cooling; they also feature on-board, automatic gain control (AGC) and real-time non-uniformity corrections (NUCs), making it possible to address the challenges of urban night imaging, without blooming.

The 12-bit digital base with CameraLink® output provides intuitive plug-and-play functionality. The improved dynamic range enhancements make the new camera well-suited for local area image processing and/or transmission. The GA1280JS camera has been rigorously tested to MIL-STD-810G for functional shock, vibration, thermal shock, storage temperature, altitude, humidity, and acceleration.
