Sweet Success for Spiroflow in Africa

Charlotte, NC - Spiroflow Systems, Inc., has increased its service to a customer that manufactures sweet drinks in Ghana, West Africa. They will provide a Spiroflow Aero Mechanical Conveyor to load sugar into a tank where syrup is produced by Kasapreko Company Ltd., the manufacturer of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Spiroflow works through its local representative, West Africa Pumping Services Ltd.

West Africa Pumping Services Ltd. is a pumping solutions company based in Ghana and Nigeria, Africa. Kasapreko approached them to solve the issue of pumping sugar into a larger storage facility. The company turned to Spiroflow to design and manufacture a conveyor to suit Kasapreko's needs. With more than 60 years' experience, their knowledge of the local markets and industries puts them in an excellent position to support the ever-growing market in West Africa.

Kasapreko, of Baatsonaa, Accra, produces 'Alomo Bitters,' well known in that area. The authentic African herbal bitters are made from carefully chosen tropical plant extracts known for their proven medicinal values. Its roots are in traditional herbal medicines - meticulously researched by the Ghana based Center for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine - a World Health Organization affiliate.

Kasapreko needed to increase its syrup production from 1,000 liters per shift to 10,000 per shift. The Aero Mechanical Conveyor will improve the efficiency and speed with which the sugar is loaded into the syrup-mixing tank. Edmond Blankson, General Manager of Plant & Bottling, confirmed that, "not only has the 'Spiroflow' Aero Mechanical Conveyor helped increase production, it also has made the handling of the sugar a more hygienic operation."

"West Africa Pumping Services Ltd. won the order because they offer local advice during selection of equipment for the increased factory capacity, and local after sales support," Blankson continued. The 'Spiroflow' Aero Mechanical Conveyor has been in operation since November 2010 and has a reliable track record.

The conveyor supplied to Kasapreko is stainless steel and has a 'round the corner' design - conveying sugar 4.7 meters vertically and 2 meters horizontally in a single unit driven at its outlet. Sugar is loaded into the conveyor via a sack tip hopper at its inlet. The hopper has a safety grid where bags can be placed while being cut open. This takes place within a dust cabinet and through a clear plastic strip curtain. The cabinet is furnished with a spigot so that it can be connected to a central dust extraction system to ensure a clean and safe working environment for operators.

'Spiroflow' Aero Mechanical Conveyors are capable of moving high volumes of material at any angle without loss of efficiency. Discs connected to a rope moving at high speeds within an enclosed feed and return pipe systems entrain the product into their slipstreams. This is 'mechanical vacuum conveying' but without the need for a filtration system as no air is either added to or subtracted from the system.

Aero Mechanical Conveyors are the optimal choice for applications requiring 'total batch transfer' of measured amounts of material. The new, optional DART (Dynamic Automatic Cable Tensioner) offers automatic 'running-in', reduced maintenance and significantly longer conveying cable life.

For over 40 years, Spiroflow has designed, engineered and manufactured its leading line of powder handling solutions.
