Sharp Introduces 12.1 inch SVGA and 15.0 inch XGA LCDs Optimized for Industrial and Business Applications

Sharp's newest Advanced Super View LCDs drive the performance envelope in resolution, luminance, and sunlight readability while maintaining compatibility

CAMAS, Wash. - May 23, 2006 - Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas has introduced two new Advanced Super View TFT-LCDs (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) for industrial, gaming, medical, and other applications. These new LCDs push performance levels in resolution and luminance while maintaining drop-in replacement for current Sharp designs. These versatile LCD modules expand SHARP's existing product suite and offer engineering customers two more size and technology options within its broad range of high-quality, cost-effective TFT-LCD solutions.

Sharp's new flat-panel LCD displays open up a greater variety of industry sectors beyond factory automation and control systems including finance, medical and electronic signage - even gaming. Applications like these demand greater visual performance combined with higher durability.

Sharp, a leader in LCD technology, developed the 12.1 inch (LQ121S1LW01) and 15.0 inch (LQ150X1LW72) models to address specific design considerations that are a priority for designers of industrial applications. Higher resolutions and greater luminance output meet the growing need for viewability in a wide range of indoor and outdoor settings and lighting conditions. Sharp's 12.1 inch module can display 262,000 colors and 250 nits of brightness; the 15.0 inch module can display an amazing 16 million colors and 350 nits of brightness. Both displays incorporate Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View technology boasting a 170-degree symmetrical viewing cone. This super-wide viewing cone allows off-axis perception of the image without color shifting or loss of detail. These Advanced Super View displays have fast response times for flicker-free screens; and because the LCDs are normally black, users perceive much crisper, clearer images.

Engineers can quickly and easily upgrade to a current-generation display without re-designing the application. Sharp's new displays feature mountings, connectors, and pinouts identical to previous versions for drop-in replacement. These new displays are also well suited for optical enhancement by third party integrators. The displays' improved durability and field-replaceable backlights with an MTBF of 50,000 hours, make them an ideal choice for a variety of applications.

"Sharp understands the varied needs of the industrial market and we will continue to develop the best display solutions in terms of size, performance, durability, and product longevity," said Sriram Peruvemba, Senior Manager, Product Marketing at Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas. "Consequently, our industrial customers throughout North America can choose exactly the right LCD panel for their product. And a dedicated sales and field application team works with them through every step of the design cycle."
