Surge Protectors safeguard medical equipment and facilities.

Press Release Summary:

Available in 40 and 80 mm modules with ratings of 140 and 200 kA, respectively, Strikesorb® provides continuous protection from lightning strikes, temporary overvoltage events, and transient voltage activity. Fuseless modules are each comprised of single distribution-grade metal oxide disc that delivers uniform distribution of surge current over total area of MOV protection element. Units are resistant to repeated surges and do not experience degradation over time.

Strikesorb® SPD Simultaneously Protects Critical Medical Facilities and Vital Medical Equipment

Liberty Lake, WA- (December 8, 2008) - Raycap Inc., a leader in surge suppression
technology, has developed a surge protection device (SPD) that provides continuous
protection from lightning strikes, temporary overvoltage events and transient voltage
activity for medical facilities and the vital equipment inside. Strikesorb® modules provide uninterrupted protection, are resistant to repeated surges, and do not experience physical or performance degradation over time, ensuring that the facility and equipment are never left unprotected from transient voltages. This can reduce maintenance costs and extend the operating life of the vital and expensive medical equipment such as X-ray, CAT scan, MRI, nuclear imaging machines, and other sensitive machines.

Strikesorb modules certified under the recently revised UL 1449 3rd Edition
Safety Standard. The Strikesorb modules met all of the UL 1449 3rd Edition Safety
Standard's intermediate current abnormal overvoltage tests by successfully conducting
current at 1000A for seven hours, without disconnecting from the circuit.

Strikesorb modules can be installed at the building service entrance or anywhere
critical equipment is connected. Strikesorb modules can be directly connected onto the
busbar on the load side of a circuit breaker, eliminating the need to install additional interconnection wires, circuit breakers or fuses, providing low let-through voltages to the equipment. Strikesorb modules can also be installed via a T - connection.

"The unique fuseless design of the Strikesorb module and its capability to
withstand short-circuit currents allow direct installation on the busbars, precluding the need to install additional fuses or interconnection wires," said Jeff Gibbons, VP Sales and Marketing at Raycap Inc. "Strikesorb SPDs are designed to perform consistently despite any variation in the transient current levels, eliminating fire or shock hazards caused by conventional SPDs. Strikesorb's ability to protect a facility and the sensitive equipment inside from over-voltage and other transient voltage activity without physical or performance degradation to the protection element reduces maintenance costs, reduces downtime, and increases the operating life of the sensitive protected equipment."

Strikesorb modules are offered in two variations, the 40mm Strikesorb module is
rated at 140kA (8/20) and the 80mm Strikesorb module is rated at 200kA (8/20)
according to NEMA LS-1-1992. Both Strikesorb modules have also successfully passed
the complete testing procedures for Class I surge suppressors, as specified in the
IEC61643-1:2005 international standard for surge protection. Both suppressor modules
are certified by the VDE Institute in Germany, and they are labeled accordingly.
Strikesorb modules are available at ratings to fit a variety of medical applications
including operating voltages of 120V up to 600V.

The Strikesorb module is comprised of a single distribution-grade metal oxide
varistor (MOV) disc that provides uniform distribution of the surge current over the total area of the MOV protection element. This results in a high-energy handling capability combined with ultra-low let-through voltage to the protected equipment.
