Surfactants contain no phenolic compounds.

Press Release Summary:

APE (alkylphenol ethoxylate)-free and readily biodegradable, Carbowet® 106 and 109 are surfactants for waterborne architectural and industrial coatings. Multifunctional, low-foaming, solvent-free additives, designed for pigment and substrate wetting, act as drop-in replacements for APEs or nonylpohenol ethoxylates (NPEs). Clear, low-odor, low-viscosity liquids are 100% active and are also suited for adhesives, inks, and pigment synthesis and dispersion.

Original Press Release:

Air Products Introduces New Surfactants for the Coatings Industry

Products are APE-Free and Readily Biodegradable

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa., Nov. 1 -- With increasing regulatory attention on coatings ingredients, formulators are becoming more and more careful about what raw materials go into their coatings. Keeping that in mind, Air Products (NYSE:APD) recently introduced Carbowet(R) 106 and 109 surfactants for waterborne architectural and industrial coatings.

Carbowet surfactants are targeting wetting agents that contain alkylphenol ethoxylates (APE) or nonylpohenol ethoxylates (NPE), which are persistent in the environment and suspected of being endocrine disrupters. In fact, Carbowet surfactants contain no phenolic compounds.

"Carbowet 106 and 109 surfactants are simple drop-in replacements for APEs and NPEs," says Laurie Marshall, marketing manager for Coatings and Adhesives. "Carbowet 106 and 109 surfactants offer excellent surface tension reduction, while also being cost-effective and biodegradable."

Carbowet 106 and 109 surfactants are multifunctional, low-foaming, solvent-free additives for pigment and substrate wetting. They are clear, low-odor, low-viscosity liquids that are 100 percent active and easy to use. Carbowet 106 and 109 surfactants differ in their degree of water solubility and are environmentally preferable alternatives to APE and NPE.

The cost-effective APE and NPE replacements are ideally suited for architectural and industrial coatings, adhesives, inks and pigment synthesis and dispersion.
