Air Products Launches EnviroGem® 360 Surfactant for Coatings Applications

New, Low-VOC Surfactant Offers Superior Surface Tension Reduction and Wetting

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa., Oct. 3 /- Air Products (NYSE:APD) today introduced EnviroGem(R) 360 surfactant for the global architectural and industrial coatings market. EnviroGem 360 surfactant has the ability to boost low-energy substrate wetting, lower foam, and reduce minimum film forming temperature (MFFT) and coating defects-all without contributing to VOC content.

EnviroGem 360 surfactant is also environmentally friendly, as in addition to its very low VOC, the product also does not contain alkylphenol ethoxylates (APE), which are persistent in the environment and suspected of being endocrine disruptors. The surfactant is also inherently biodegradable.

"EnviroGem 360 surfactants can help coatings formulators increase performance and address many of the challenges that are inherent in low VOC formulating," said Laurie Marshall, market manager for coatings and adhesives at Air Products.

Coatings are not the only end use for EnviroGem 360 surfactant. It also is used in the printing industry as an additive for fountain solutions. In fact, the use of EnviroGem 360 in fountain solutions provides superior wetting and foam reduction without harming the press or printing components.
