Lumex's Family of High-Power LEDs Delivers High Intensity and Energy Efficiency in 3 Innovative Packages

PALATINE, IL-Lumex is announcing the expansion of its family of High-Power LEDs. Available in three different surface-mount packages and 34 product variants, these LEDs combine high levels of illumination with low power consumption. They are ideal for use as LCD backlights, decorative lighting, automotive interior lighting, animated signs, warning lights and alarms, or any application where very high light output with the lower power consumption of LEDs is needed.

Lumex High-Power LEDs in the LuxLEDs(TM) package are available in 14 different versions with emitted colors of yellow, red, blue, green, and white. State-of-the-art chip technology produces axial intensities as high as 24,000mcd with total flux levels up to 5.0Lm at If = 120mA. The LuxLED(TM) package has a footprint of approximately 11mm by 21mm (0.44-inch by 0.82-inch), and it is designed to handle a maximum power dissipation of 320mW.

Lumex High-Power SuperFLUX(TM) LEDs in the PLCC-4 package are offered in 10 different versions, all using state-of-the-art chip technology. They are available in yellow, green, blue, white, and orange/red colors. Axial light intensities range up to 25,000mcd, with maximum total flux levels of 15Lm at If = 350mA. The industry-standard PLCC-4 package offers a maximum power dissipation of 120mW.

Lumex's new AstraLEDs(TM) provide the highest intensities of all the members of the High-Power family. These 1W High Power LEDs deliver a total flux level of up to 30Lm with a power input of 350mA. Lumex AstraLEDs(TM) are designed for use with automatic surface-mount soldering processes. They are available with two different lens shapes for maximum viewing angle and they have extended metal backplanes to allow efficient heat transfer to the PCB or other mounting surface.

Samples of Lumex High-Power LEDs are typically in stock at Lumex Stocking Distributors, with production quantities available in 6 - 8 weeks. Pricing varies depending on the specific product and quantity ordered. For a red LuxLED(TM) with a total flux level of 12Lm, pricing is approximately $2.00 at quantities of 1,000.

Lumex, an ITW company, is a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of opto- and photo-electronic components, devices and displays. These products are used mostly in the man-to-machine interface, and in some cases, for the detection of motion, short-range signaling, and fiber communications. Lumex now offers thousands of items, with an emphasis on both application-specific and customer-specific parts for the North American, Asian and European markets.

The company is headquartered in Palatine, Illinois and Chu Dung, Hsin Chu County, Taiwan, ROC, with an Operations center near Frankfort, Germany, manufacturing facilities in Illinois, Taiwan and China, and distributors throughout North America, Europe and the Pacific Rim. Since its inception in 1980, Lumex was established as a global organization offering application-specific solutions--but with the manufacturing efficiencies normally associated only with volume operations. Lumex received its initial ISO 9001 registration in 1996.
