SuperSonic Imagine's Imaging Platform Chosen by Canon Inc. for Research Project on Photoacoustic and Ultrasonic Imaging

Aix-en-Provence, France – SuperSonic Imagine (Euronext: SSI, FR0010526814), a company specializing in ultrasound medical imaging (sonography), announces the signature of a collaboration contract with Canon Inc. where the Japanese company will develop a photoacoustic1 and ultrasonic imaging device based on SuperSonic Imagine's proprietary technology.

SuperSonic Imagine has already distinguished itself as the only company marketing an ultrasound system capable of real time imaging of tissue stiffness, adding a new physical parameter for disease assessment. This new photoacoustic and ultrasonic project will enable the combination of ultrasound waves with light waves to further augment diagnostic information. This unique technology is part of Canon Inc.'s research portfolio.

"We are very pleased that Canon has chosen our technology as a central component of their photoacoustic and ultrasonic imaging research prototype. It is a true validation of our strategic choice to use a disruptive software-based architecture." explains Claude CohenBacrie, Co-Founder and Scientific Director of SuperSonic Imagine.

"SuperSonic Imagine has a history of bringing new innovation to the market, creating new modalities, changing the rules for conventional modes of imaging. It is for those reasons that Canon has decided to leverage our unique product architecture and ultrasound imaging processor, and by giving them access to our technology we will enable another step in the forefront of clinical innovation with new exciting diagnostic possibilities" concludes Jacques Souquet, Founder and CEO of SuperSonic Imagine.

1 Photoacoustic imaging is a technique that diffuses light waves in tissue, which in turn responds by emitting an acoustic wave.

About SuperSonic Imagine

Founded in 2005 and based in Aix-en-Provence (France), SuperSonic Imagine is a company specializing in medical imaging. The company designs, develops and markets a revolutionary ultrasound system, Aixplorer®, with an UltraFast™ platform that can acquire images 200 times faster than conventional ultrasound systems. Aixplorer® is the only system that can image two types of waves: ultrasound waves ensure excellent image quality and shear waves, which allow physicians to visualize and analyze the stiffness of tissue in a real-time, reliable, reproducible and non-invasive manner. This innovation, ShearWave™Elastography, significantly improves the detection and characterization of numerous pathologies in several applications including breast, thyroid, liver and prostate. SuperSonic Imagine has been granted regulatory clearances for the commercialization of Aixplorer® in the main global markets. Over the past years, SuperSonic Imagine enjoyed the backing of several prestigious investors, among which Auriga Partners, Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, Bpifrance, Omnes Capital and NBGI.
