Suntron Corporation Sizes Up the Competition in 01005 Placements

PHOENIX, AZ - Suntron Corporation, a leader in integrated electronics manufacturing systems (EMS) and embedded computing solutions, announced today that it successfully developed a 01005 passive component manufacturing process and completed a build for a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) for a high reliability defense customer.

"With careful planning prior to the actual build, Suntron's assembly with the 01005 components was very successful. We are pleased to offer this leading-edge technology to our customers at a high level of quality and reliability," stated Jon Saunders, Suntron's Methuen, MA plant manager. "The smaller component size allows for a higher density board, which is essential in keeping our customers ahead of the increasingly competitive market," he adds.

This new solution was assembled for a large defense contractor, but it has applications in a variety of market including aerospace, medical and industrial. The highly complex board has more than 124 placements of 01005 components requiring the control of many variables during assembly. The 01005 case size is half the size of the 0201, previously considered to be the smallest case size in Surface Mount Technology. Due to the component's tiny size, well-planned modifications to the paste application and placement processes were necessary to achieve success. In addition, Suntron Corporation has the expertise and dedicated resources, including a state-of-the-art imaging machine, to inspect the printed circuit boards (PCB) and detect defects.

Suntron Corporation currently holds NADCAP and AS9100 certifications for the A&D industry and ISO:13485 for medical.
