Sundyne Corporation Announces 60 Years of HMD/Kontro Sealless Magnetic Drive Pump Manufacturing

ARVADA, Colo. March 6: Sundyne Corporation, a subsidiary of Hamilton Sunstrand, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), today launched a worldwide search for the oldest HMD/Kontro sealless magnetic drive pump still in active service to celebrate 60 years of sealless pump production and innovation.

The Sundyne HMD/Kontro family of pumps was originally founded as Hydraulic & Mechanical Developments in Eastbourne, England. HMD developed the sealless pump concept in post-World War II and sold the first pump to ICI, in 1947. In 1997 Sundyne Corporation purchased HMD/Kontro to provide reliable sealless technology to the world. "Our sealless magnetic drive pump technology is especially suited to handle arduous chemical processing applications that are hazardous, with high viscosity, high pressure, and extremely hot temperatures," said Colin Guppy, general manger of HMD/Kontro pumps.

With increasing EH&S (environmental, health & safety) concerns and regulations, sealless pumps are specified in place of traditional pumps because they are safe to use. A sealless magnetic drive pump will not leak, and so will not create a hazardous spill or ecological hazard. Sundyne HMD/Kontro sealless magnetic drive pumps significantly lower maintenance costs and extend product life.

Over the past 60 years Sundyne HMD/Kontro engineers have refined the sealless pump concept and harnessed magnet drive technology to produce a comprehensive range of standard pumps to match specialized chemical and hydrocarbon processing applications. "We continue to make significant investments to enhance the Sundyne sealless family of pumps including HMD/Kontro and Ansimag to increase reliability, performance and quality", stated Jeff Wiemelt, vice president and general manager of Sundyne Corporation.
