Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite, Solaris Operating System Supports Payment Processing Across Borders and the Enterprise

SIBOS, SYDNEY, Australia (Booth K09), Oct. 8 -- Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ:SUNW) today announced the second phase of its payment strategy with the launch of the new Open Payment Suite based on the Sun Java Composite Application Platform (CAPs)(TM) suite and Solaris(TM) Operating System(OS), the most advanced OS on the planet. Building on its Consolidated Payments Architecture (CPA), launched last year at Sibos and in line with its acquisition of Seebeyond in 2005, this next phase of Sun's strategy sees the offering of a range of technologies that aim to address the particular challenges facing the payments industry today.

Sun has integrated its CPA and Open Payments Bus to create a market leading business integration and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform. This event-driven platform comes pre-integrated with leading Payment Partner applications and is designed to transform fragmented legacy systems, while maximizing the re-use of existing assets. Sun's Open Payment Suite is based on Sun's fully-integrated Java CAPs suite, as well as the award-winning Solaris OS, which powers the payment systems of the global banking community. Sun's Open Payment Suite is based on Solaris 10, the most secure OS on the planet and the strategic platform of choice for the global banking community.

The suite includes the new SWIFT Message Monitor solution which allows financial firms to automatically audit SWIFT traffic as it flows through their organizations, positively impacting operational risk and compliance. The Sun Open Payment Suite was developed with the view of broadening banking services in the area of financial supply chain services as banks seek to deepen their value propositions to corporate clients. Based on Sun's experience in designing and implementing technologies in support of automated clearing house and clearance infrastructures, these technologies support the wave of changes in clearing and settling, and Central Securities Depository developments worldwide.

Voca, one of the largest processors of direct debit and credit transfers in Europe, went live with its new payments platform in July 2006.
