Earning Top Bill: GE's New Turnkey Revenue Grade EPM 1500 Single-Point and EPM 4500 Multi-Point Submetering Systems

Plainville, CT - GE Consumer & Industrial's electrical distribution business introduces the EPM 1500 single-point and EPM 4500 multi-point submetering systems. Engineered for retrofit and new construction with power line communication capability, the EPM submetering systems offer commercial, residential and industrial property owners who are currently "master metered" the ability to divide energy charges or monitor usage with an easy-to-use, revenue grade energy/demand data logging meter.

"Customers with multi-point high rises, garden style apartments, condos or office suites no longer need to rely on external services to manage and monitor their energy usage," says Mike Mahan, Senior Product Manager, Low Voltage Equipment. "The EPM 1500 and 4500 submetering systems allow retrofit and new construction customers to manage, maintain and bill electric, water or gas usage directly from their system - easily and reliably."

Easy Single- and Multi-Point Monitoring, Metering and Billing
The EPM 1500 and 4500 submetering systems - equipped with easy-to-read front LCD display, IECE optical port and fuse block and CT shorting assembly - feature a single wall mountable, tamper resistant, rugged, metal enclosure that can be quickly installed, located near or away from the electrical circuits.

The EPM 4500 provides standard communication over a patented, two-way PLC (Power Line Communications) where the AC lines act as the communication medium - ideal for retrofit applications where placing new communication lines can be difficult and expensive. Data can be retrieved via GE or third-party software through the use of a transponder.

The submetering systems provide local, real-time viewing, per-phase of voltage, current, power factor, phase angle, watts, kVARs, kVA and frequency. The systems offer event reporting with time and date stamps regarding consumption, demand resets, power ups/downs, and time changes. The non-volatile flash memory with backup battery retains daily and interval metering data during power outages.

The EPM 1500 submetering system is available in numerous packages for either kWh or demand applications as 120/208V or 277/480V ranges with either solid or split core CTs. The EPM 4500 is offered in 120/208V, 120/240V delta, 277/480V, 480V delta or 347/600V. Other packages for the EPM 4500 are available for 480V or 600V with solid or split core applications.

Along with delivering easy monitoring, metering and billing, the EPM 1500 single-point and 4500 multi-point submetering systems also offer:
  • Compatible with both GE and third party billing systems, such as the Eneractive Energy Management Software, to provide a complete reporting and billing solution for electrical, water, gas, and BTU submetering;
  • Local viewing display with simply pushbutton access to allow instant viewing of time and historical data on easy-to-read 32-digit LCD screen including push button scroll and programmable display scroll and decimal;
  • Accuracy requirements from meeting ANSI C12.1 and C12.16 revenue grade accuracy specifications and the stringent requirements of Measurement Canada (AE-1148);
  • Optional pulse inputs for additional energy information inputs, derived from water, gas, steam and similar meters, that utilize Form A outputs;
  • Optional RS-485 Modbus open protocol communication for networking to GE Mutilin and third party systems; and,
  • Power Line Communication over existing power lines to eliminate additional wiring installation.
