Spectra Delivers High-Output Functionality & Style

NEW ORION MACHINE DESIGNED TO SUIT TODAY'S NEEDS
On exhibit at Pack Expo Chicago, November 3-7, 2002, Booth S-2866

COLLIERVILLE, TN (July, 2002) - In a marked departure from its traditional structural tube machine design, Orion Packaging has announced the Spectra, a high-performance, semi-automatic turntable stretch wrapping machine with a rugged formed steel frame which is both attractive and functional. The Spectra, which will be exhibited at Pack Expo, Chicago, booth S-2866, is the newest addition to Orion's product line. It represents the latest thinking in the company's practice of building advanced, customer-focused stretch wrapping machines, introducing enhancements in electronics, materials, components and ergonomic design. Among the new innovations and associated benefits are:

oComponents protected within the machine's durable steel mast enclosure, providing a streamlined look and the durability required for years of dependable service. With motors, gearboxes and electronics encased in the mast, components are accessible yet protected from hazards in busy industrial environments.
oUse of a maintenance-free belt for the film carriage drive. Belt ascent and gravity descent of the film carriage greatly reduces the likelihood of an object under the carriage being damaged by the carriage being "driven" onto it. In the extremely unlikely event that the belt should fail, a special "Drop Lock" system prevents the carriage from free falling.

While it will add a new look to the factory floor, the Spectra is a workhorse. The Spectra uses Orion's proven Insta-Thread Power Prestretch carriage. The Insta-Thread provides five second stretch film loading, and a standard powered prestretch rate of 260% for maximum film economy. The side-facing film carriage is ergonomically designed to allow the operator to safely change film rolls without stepping onto the machine between the carriage and the load. For added safety, the front of the carriage is covered to protect the roller area.

The Spectra has a maximum load weight capacity of 5,000 lbs., and is capable of handling larger than normal pallet loads measuring up to 55" x 55" x 90". Automatic height sensing is standard, as is a forklift portable base design for easy machine transport from both the front and rear of the machine. A variable turntable rotation of up to 14 RPM allows the Spectra to wrap up to 50 loads per hour. The turntable features an automatic chain tensioner, eliminating the need for periodic tensioning. Driving the turntable is a high efficiency helical gear reducer, making the machine more resistant to damage from lift-truck bumps while the machine is being loaded. Further, the turntable has a steel ring "skirt" that prevents turntable flexing should the wheel of a forklift drive onto it.

Like the entire Orion line of automatic and semi-automatic stretch wrapping machines, Spectra is designed to unitize pallet loads quickly and economically using the least amount of stretch film. Orion machines can dramatically increase throughput rates and lower cost per load compared to manual (hand) stretch wrapping operations.
