Stretch-Wrapping Machine eliminates double handling of loads.

Press Release Summary:

Model CTS-67 stand-alone, turntable-style stretch-wrapping unit provides separate staging and wrapping areas. Manufactured of 100% structural steel, product handles 48 x 48 in. loads that weigh up to 4,000 lb, and automatically adjusts for varying load heights of up to 72 in. Max turntable rotation of 12 rpm, on 25 in. precision, ring-bearing turntable support, with ANSI chain and sprocket drive, provides rated throughput of up to 45 loads per hour.

New Orion CTS-67 Boosts Stretch Wrapping Efficiency

COLLIERVILLE, TN (February, 2003) - For warehouse and factory managers hoping to improve work flow, increase efficiency and heighten workplace ergonomics, Orion Packaging Systems' new CTS-67 is designed to streamline stretch wrapping operations by providing a staging conveyor onto which unwrapped loads can be placed, thus eliminating the need for double handling of the load.

CTS-67 (short for "Conveyorized two-station") is a stand-alone turntable-style stretch wrapping unit that increases efficiency by providing separate staging and wrapping areas. Serving a niche Orion calls "Hybrid Automation," operation of the CTS-67 is as simple as the unit is production enhancing. A forklift driver delivers a load to the infeed conveyor, pulls a hanging lanyard and leaves to fetch another load or tend to other tasks.

The unwrapped load is then conveyed to the turntable and the wrap cycle begins. While the load is being wrapped, the forklift driver can place an unwrapped load onto the infeed conveyor to wait for the cycle to finish.

Once the machine finishes wrapping the load, the last wrap of film is cut and the film tail is secured to the load. When the driver picks up the unitized load from the turntable, the CTS-67 automatically conveys the waiting load onto the turntable.

For many companies, the CTS-67 replaces the need to purchase a fully automatic machine to accommodate multi-station wrapping. The CTS-67 maximizes material flow through the unitizing process, increasing factory efficiency and ensuring workers remain productive, said Mack Greene, President of Orion Packaging Systems.

"It eliminates double handling and the ergonomic issue of climbing down, removing film or starting a wrap cycle," Greene said. "It's really all about logistics, ergonomics and the flow of activities involving medium- to high-volume throughput."

The CTS-67 is a middle-market machine was designed based on customer and market feedback, and debuted in November at Pack Expo International. The machine serves the gap between the HPA-66 single platform hybrid automatic, and the feature-rich FA-66 fully-automatic multi-station machine.

"The CTS-67 makes our product line more seamless, as end users seek to progress from semi-automatic systems up to conveyorized and fully-automatic systems," Green said. "The CTS-67 fills that much-needed gap."

Manufactured of rugged 100% structural steel, the CTS-67 is built for years of reliable operation. The unit can handle 48" by 48" loads weighing up to 4,000 pounds and automatically adjusts for varying load heights of up to 72 inches. Maximum turntable rotation of 12 RPM, on a 25-inch precision ring bearing turntable support with ANSI chain and sprocket drive, provides a rated throughput of up to 45 loads per hour. The high-performance Insta-Thread film carriage elongates stretch film by 245% for maximum-strength film performance, while the carriage's hinged roller design makes loading a fresh roll fast, safe and easy. As with all Orion machines, maintenance is simplified by the "open" mechanical design, which provides easy access to all major components. The CTS-67 uses the industry standard Allen Bradley Micrologix programmable logic controller.

And as with all Orion products, customers can purchase non-proprietary replacement parts locally or from a dealer.
