Stratus Technologies Announces Industry's First Quad-Core Fault-Tolerant Server

Highest performance, best reliability for business-critical Windows and Linux applications

ORLANDO, Fla., March 26 -- Leading the debut of the fourth- generation Stratus® ftServer® line is the new ftServer 6200 system, the most powerful Intel® processor-based, fault-tolerant server ever for Windows® or Linux® operating environments in enterprise and telecommunications networks, Stratus Technologies announced today at its Continuous Availability Summit 2007 in Florida.

The two-socket ftServer 6200 system represents Stratus' new high-end server offering, delivering as much as a threefold performance improvement over the previous top-of-the-line model. Modular and rack-optimized, this is the industry's first fault-tolerant server to use the Intel Xeon(TM) quad-core processor. Like all ftServer models, the 6200 system delivers uptime reliability of 99.999 percent or better, making it ideal for transaction- intensive business processes, next-generation telecommunications services, or as a high-performance database engine or virtualization platform. Stratus Continuous Processing® technology ensures that applications will suffer no downtime and no data loss as a consequence of a processor, subsystem, or component malfunction.

Among the other ftServer 6200 key features* are:

o support for Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2

o support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS v.4 and ES v.4
(both standard and premium)

o memory up to 24GB logical (up to 48GB physical)

o internal hot-pluggable SAS/SATA drives, up to three logical
(up to six physical)

o virtual technician module (VTM) for remote out-of-band diagnosis and
reboot

o Active Upgrade(TM) software for online patching and hot fixes
(Windows only).

The new system supports several external data storage options, including Stratus ftScalable Storage, a high-performance, expandable RAID subsystem. ftScalable storage consists of a 2U (3.5") 12-disk shelf containing a pair of RAID controllers; expansion to 24 or 36 disks is possible with optional expansion shelves. Other external storage supported on the ftServer 6200 includes EMC Symmetrix/Clariion® systems, and Hewlett-Packard EVA 500 and EVA 4000/6000/800.

"Raw processing power, performance and reliability place the ftServer 6200 in a class by itself," said Greg Enriquez, senior vice president, Worldwide Field Operations. "This is an enterprise-class server in every way, including storage options, footprint, and compactness. The combination of quad-core technology with Stratus' lock-step fault-tolerant technology, system software, and built-in servicing capabilities goes right to the heart of business- critical IT requirements and the uncompromising demands of telecommunications infrastructure."

The ftServer 6200 system is the first product developed jointly by Stratus and NEC Corporation as a result of their collaboration agreement signed November 2005. Stratus is currently beta testing the server, which will be available June 2007. The server will first ship with support for the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system; Red Hat Linux support will follow by one quarter. Pricing will be available at a later time. All other current Stratus ftServer models - 2400, 4300, and 5700 - are available for immediate shipment.
