1/4, 1/2 and Full Bridge Strain Gage Signal Conditioner
Calex Mfg. Co., Inc. of Concord California announces the availability of the Model 163MK Strain Gage Signal Conditioner. The 163MK offers a complete turn-key signal conditioning solution for virtually any strain gage based measurement. The 163MK is designed to accomodate 1/4, 1/2 and full wheatstone bridge strain gage applications. The unit offers 1/4 bridge completion and calibration for applications such as materials and structural testing. The 163MK has two built-in precision 1/2 bridge completion resistors for 1/2 bridge applications. The 163 MK can also handle full bridge applications such as load cells for hopper and tank weighing applications.
In addition to 1/4 and 1/2 bridge completion, the unit has a high gain differential amplifier, two pole Butterworth filter, and built-in excitation supply capable of providing up to 120mA of excitation current. The 163MK is relatively compact, measuring 4.5" x 2.5" x 0.5"W. All connections and trim pots are easily accessible. The unit is powered by ±15VDC.
The gain of the 163MK amplifier can be set as high as 5000 making the unit ideal for very low level signals. The amplifier output is ± 10V making the unit compatible with virtually all data acquisition and control systems. The output filter cutoff frequency can be set at 10Hz, 100Hz or 1kHz with the flick of an on-board DIP switch. The filter can also be set to any frequency from 10Hz to 10kHz through the use of user supplied resistors and capacitors. Output offset and bridge balance pots are available for tare and system adjustments. The amplifier also has an input offset for nulling the instrumentation amplifier.
The 163MK excitation supply is adjustable from4 to 10 Volts. Load regulation is 0.02% and line regulation is 0.005%/V. Output noise is 200µV peak to peak. The excitation supply is protected through short circuit protection. For maximum stability, the excitation voltage can beset to a fixed +10V with the on-hoard DIP switch. The excitation supply also has remove sensing capability to compensate for any line drops that might be present in long lead applications.
