The IBM TotalStorage Enterprise NAS Gateway 500: Designed to be a High-Performance Cost-Effective Solution for LAN to SAN Storage

Overview

The IBM TotalStorage® Enterprise NAS Gateway 500 is a new member of the IBM family of NAS storage products. This product is a specialized storage server that is designed to provide end-user clients and servers on an Ethernet LAN, access to storage resources on direct-attached or SAN-attached Fibre Channel storage disk subsystems and allocate storage on their behalf, on approved, predefined storage devices. The NAS Gateway 500 is designed to appear to clients on the LAN as a standard Network Attached Storage (NAS) device and behave as an efficient conduit between the clients and Fibre Channel storage systems such as the IBM FAStT product line, the IBM Enterprise Storage Server(TM), the IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller, and the IBM TotalStorage SAN Integration Server.

The NAS Gateway 500 is an enterprise-class NAS storage device optimized for file serving and accepts file I/O requests from clients utilizing file protocols that include CIFS, NFS (V2 and V3), HTTP, and FTP. It is designed to be directly connected to Fibre Channel storage or the SAN infrastructure to allow connectivity to multiple storage devices on a SAN.

Employing the NAS Gateway 500 is designed to extend the value of your SAN network by combining enterprise-class reliability and availability, and by helping lower administrative cost through storage consolidation. The NAS Gateway 500 is designed to help meet the high performance and scalability demands of the largest corporate networks for NAS file sharing in UNIX®, Linux, AIX®, and Microsoft(TM) environments.
