Storage/Retrieval System optimizes storage locations.

Press Release Summary:

Automated CubeStar(TM) system, when combined with Shuttle(TM) Vertical Lift Module's 1 in. adjustability, allows each tray to be stored in least amount of vertical area to minimize storage space requirements. System dynamically measures each tray profile to nearest inch and determines exact storage requirement. It then determines best position in unit based on least amount of space used for quickest retrieval position.

Original Press Release:

CubeStar(TM) Technology Provides up to 50% More Capacity

Remstar's CubeStar(TM) automated high-density system combines both hardware and controls to provide up to an additional 50% of storage capacity per unit by increasing the units storage efficiency. This savings can equate to fewer units, less capital cost outlay, less floor space requirements and less labor. Remstar's unique design and innovative technology when combined with the Shuttle(TM) Vertical Lift Module's (VLM) 1" adjustability, allows each tray to be stored in the least amount of vertical area to minimize storage space requirements.

The CubeStar system can increase storage density due to its ability to dynamically measure each tray's profile to the nearest inch and determine its exact storage requirement. The control system determines the best position in the unit based on the least amount of space used for the fastest retrieval position. The Shuttle VLM can be designed to accommodate changing and variable height objects by staggering its rail or tray position locations on an as needed basis.

CubeStar technology is uniquely designed to work with Remstar's Shuttle VLM to maximize storage capacity. Many other VLMs store trays in six inch space increments, wasting 50% of available headroom. For instance, a tray with a 3.1 inch tall box placed for storage utilizing the CubeStar technology would automatically be stored in a 4 inch high area of the Shuttle VLM thereby increasing storage capacity. The CubeStar system measures the box as it passes onto the lift platform and determines a need for a four-inch high space, thus storing the tray in the nearest 4 inch opening. Some other VLMs don't make the same dynamic allocation for height and must store the box in a fixed space, and still others scan the box and are forced to store in fixed six-inch ratios. The wasted space can translate into wasted capital when 50% more equipment is needed for the job!
