Brocade Introduces Breakthrough Products and Capabilities for Next-Generation Data Center Infrastructure

New Products Raise Standards for Performance, Extend SAN Connectivity for Greater Efficiencies and Consolidation

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 6 / -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(R)) (NASDAQ:BRCD), today introduced several new storage networking products and capabilities to provide IT professionals with the Storage Area Network (SAN) building blocks for next-generation efficiencies within and across data centers. The new products are designed to extend the value of enterprise SANs with new performance levels and expanded connectivity options that support flexible consolidation of computing resources, increased return on existing investments, and the evolution of new data center capabilities.

Brocade announced four breakthrough storage network connectivity products in press releases today:

-- The SilkWorm(R) 4900, an industry-first 64-port, 4 Gbit/sec SAN switch in a compact package that provides flexibility for port aggregation and simplified management of SAN environments.

-- The SilkWorm 7500 Switch and the SilkWorm FR4-18i Blade, both of which provide the industry's first 4 Gbit/sec SAN routing as well as high-performance Fibre Channel over Internet Protocol (FCIP) capabilities to extend enterprise SANs over distance. The SilkWorm FR4-18i is available as a plug-in blade for the SilkWorm 48000 Director, and the SilkWorm 7500 is a standalone switch for flexible deployments in various SAN configurations.

-- The Brocade iSCSI Gateway for connecting Ethernet-capable servers to Fibre Channel SANs and storage resources. This platform supports fast and cost-effective extension of SAN connectivity for up to 100 IP-connected servers per device.

"Our customers consistently tell us they need flexibility in order to fulfill all the different requirements for performance and cost control within and beyond the walls of the data center," said Tom Buiocchi, Brocade Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Support. "Our commitment is to provide our partners and customers with the right mix of technologies to connect, consolidate, and ultimately better control enterprise data storage and server assets."

Each of the new products plays a key role in supporting data center connectivity and consolidation projects driven by the need to reduce cost, achieve greater flexibility, and extend the value of existing investments in SAN infrastructure. The SilkWorm 4900 switch expands the industry's only comprehensive family of 4 Gbit/sec SAN platforms, which now ranges from an entry-level 8-port switch to the 256-port capability of the SilkWorm 48000 Director. The SilkWorm FC4-18i blade delivers extended performance capabilities for the SilkWorm 48000 Director, and the SilkWorm 7500 provides a standalone switch with industry-leading Fibre Channel routing and FCIP performance. The Brocade iSCSI Gateway extends SAN benefits to a wider group of servers with its easy and efficient connectivity of low-cost servers to enterprise storage.

"Gaining control over the growing number of low cost servers is a key challenge for IT managers in today's enterprise," said Richard Villars, Vice President of Storage System research at IDC. "A key element in companies' server consolidation strategies is the inclusion of these systems within existing storage area network frameworks. Solutions like Brocade's expanded portfolio of high density SAN switches and iSCSI gateways will help IT managers better control their information assets and provide a solid foundation for advanced data management services in a world of proliferating servers."
