Caringo Extends Lead in Cloud Storage with Secure Multi-Tenancy, Dynamic Caching and Named Objects

CAStor 5.0 object storage provides Optimized Utilization, Performance, and Administration for Enterprise and Web 2.0 use

AUSTIN, Texas - Caringo Inc., the leading provider of object storage software enabling high availability, secure and scalable storage infrastructure for digital content, today unveiled CAStor 5.0, a significant breakthrough for enterprise and private cloud storage that delivers named objects, multi-tenancy, dynamic caching, seamless remote data replication and more.

CAStor 5.0 provides user-assigned symbolic naming that leverages the existing CAStor infrastructure to deliver access to billions of objects in a cluster. The semantics are consistent with the emerging standards of popular public cloud storage services and they work seamlessly alongside CAStor's system-assigned Universally Unique IDs (UUIDs). Named objects are ideal for applications requiring a self-generated or symbolic name to store and retrieve a file or object, while taking advantage of the high performance, massive scalability, data integrity and data protection built into CAStor.

CAStor 5.0 enhances support for enterprises by enabling them to host multiple departments or divisions within one physical private cloud with each maintaining total security and authenticated separation without requiring multiple hardware configurations. This means significantly lower TCO for cloud storage with more cost efficient clouds, better utilization of hardware and significantly less system administration by applying one common infrastructure for all applications, uses, customers and departments.

With CAStor 5.0 enterprise IT can give each tenant its own domain for user content. Unique to CAStor 5.0 is the ability to create multiple domains in the same storage infrastructure, unlike Amazon S3 which only allows one domain. Within a domain, named objects are organized into multiple storage buckets that may be protected with their own security realms and Access Control Lists (ACLs). Users can also provide ACL control at the individual object level. CAStor multi-tenancy makes it a straightforward process for Web 2.0 and individual companies to easily host a CAStor storage cloud. New domains, buckets and objects are protected as soon as they are created with CAStor's automatic data replication functionality that replicates one or more copies to other nodes in the cluster to ensure continuous data availability.

CAStor 5.0 incorporates dynamic caching to accelerate read access of high demand objects, not unlike a Content Delivery Network (CDN). Heavily accessed objects are stored in RAM on nodes across the cluster to reduce latency and improve throughput. As demand for an object changes, CAStor automatically manages the cache to increase or decrease the number of cached copies throughout the storage cluster.

"CAStor 5.0 provides enterprises and Web 2.0 a powerful solution to store sensitive data on their private cloud and less sensitive content on a seamlessly connected public cloud," said Mark Goros, Chief Executive Officer at Caringo. "CAStor unlocks the potential of private and public cloud platforms to drive down CAPEX costs while providing Web 2.0 and enterprises with the only storage system that delivers the unlimited scalability, efficiency and affordability to keep pace with the massive data loads that companies are moving into cloud storage."
