Storage Drive is designed for microcontroller applications.

Press Release Summary:

Measuring 14.9 x 18.9 x 3.5 mm, DRIVE-uSD-G1 provides disk-drive data storage for microcontroller applications. It utilizes auto-baud RS-232 serial interface (300-256 kbaud) for data storage and retrieval, and features on-board LEDs that indicate system status. Suited for wide range of applications, unit operates from 3.6-6.0 V at 25 mA, and requires only 5 pin interface to host device. Optional USB to Serial interface board USB-CE5 allows USB connection for system firmware updates.

Simple SD Storage for Microcontrollers

February 5, 2008

Pittsford, NY: DRIVE-uSD-G1 is a tiny module that can be easily interfaced to any microcontroller project that requires "disk-drive" data storage. Most microcontroller applications are constrained by the available onboard memory where large volumes of data are concerned. The compact 14.9 x 18.9 x 3.5mm DRIVE-uSD-G1 takes memory burdens away from the host controller by allowing data transfers via a simple serial interface.

A few simple commands provide direct access to the onboard micro-SD memory card for handling almost any size or type of binary data. Data storage and retrieval takes place via the auto-baud RS-232 serial interface (300 to 256kbaud). The easy-learn commands can read and write data blocks ranging from a single byte in size to 512 bytes of sectors on 64MB to 2GB SD memory cards.

Helpful on-board LEDs indicate system status (GREEN: Power and Memory Card detect indicator; RED: "Disk Drive" access) and DRIVE-uSD-G1 can operate from 3.6 - 6.0 V @ about 25mA. An optional USB to Serial interface board USB-CE5 allows USB connection for system firmware updates.

Applications for DRIVE-uSD-G1 include data logging, program storage, music/image/video files, or any general purpose data storage. When a PIC, AVR, ARM, STAMP, Propeller or any other microcontroller application requires data storage, DRIVE-uSD-G1 offers an ideal, rapid solution, since it requires only a simple 5 pin interface to the host device (VCC, TX, RX, GND, RESET).

DRIVE-uSD-G1 is made in Australia by 4D Systems and is available now from their USA distributor Saelig Co. Inc.
