New Zero-Backlash, Harmonic Gearheads for AlphaStep Series
Torrance, CA - Oriental Motor USA Corp. introduces new harmonic gear technology for its AlphaStep Series of stepping motor and driver packages with built-in feedback devices. The new harmonic (HG) gearhead offers highly precise, zero-backlash performance while providing extremely high torque.
The HG gearhead is available in combination with two types of AlphaStep packages. Combined with the HG gearhead, the 1.65 in. sq. (42 mm sq.) motor models, including those equipped with electromagnetic brakes, produce a maximum holding torque ranging from 22 lb-in. to 35 lb-in. These packages are available with single-phase 100-115 VAC 50/60 Hz inputs. The HG gearhead is also available with miniature 1.1 in. sq. (28 mm sq.) motor models to produce a maximum holding torque ranging from 13 lb-in. to 17 lb-in. These packages are available with 24VDC input board level drivers.
The AlphaStep Series uses a built-in feedback device that constantly monitors the motor shaft to detect and correct for loss of synchronism. This eliminates missed steps, a common problem with stepping motors. The AlphaStep has very high response since it runs open loop under normal conditions and only runs in closed loop when a position deviation of 1.8 degrees or greater is seen. The AlphaStep driver uses microstep control (up to 10,000 steps per revolution) to provide smooth, low-speed operation.
