Original Press Release:

Popular ST5 Stepper Drives from Applied Motion Products are Now Programmable for Stand-Alone Operation

Programming is a breeze with intuitive Windows-based software

WATSONVILLE, CA - Applied Motion Products introduces the ST5-Si Stepper Drive. These drives are programmable for stand-alone operation with Applied Motion Products' easy-to-use Si Programmer(TM) Windows-based software with integrated tuning. A graphical point-and-click format combines motion, I/O and operator interface functionality for simple machine sequencing. As a result, these drives easily integrate with other devices on a machine such as sensors and PLCs.

ST5-Si drives deliver 24-48 VDC with output current from 0.5-5.0A. They are engineered to protect against over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temp and external output shorts, and provide 8 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs. Option boards are available to add encoder feedback and RS485 functionality. The encoder feedback option board delivers motor stall detection, stall prevention and position maintenance.

Users will benefit from Self-Test and Auto Setup features that measure and configure motor parameters automatically (users can also quickly create custom motor configurations, if desired). Advanced anti-resonance technology eliminates midrange instability for higher motor speeds, while making possible fuller use of available torque. Demand Signal Smoothing reduces extraneous system resonances for smoother motor performance and reduced wear on mechanical components. Torque Ripple Smoothing adjusts the current waveform to reduce low speed torque ripple for smooth motion at low motor speeds. Additionally, MicroStep Emulation provides smooth motion for systems that require low step resolutions.

Founded in 1978, Applied Motion Products specializes in cost-effective, high precision motors and motion control solutions. They offer a full complement of stepper and Brushless servo motors, positioning control electronics and gearheads to industrial and OEM customers.
