Ultralow I(Q) Regulated 60mA Step Up Charge Pump in 2mm x 2mm DFN Package

MILPITAS, CA - November 7, 2006 - Linear Technology Corporation announces the
LTC3221/-3.3/-5 regulated step up charge pumps offered in the compact 2mm x 2mm DFN package. Featuring 60mA output current and Burst Mode® operation, the LTC3221 family consumes an ultra-low quiescent current of 8uA, saving battery run time in portable device applications. The LTC3221 has an adjustable output voltage and a wide input voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V with a maximum output level not greater than twice the available input voltage. The LTC3221-3.3 generates a regulated boosted output voltage of 3.3V from a minimum input voltage of 1.8V, while the LTC3221-5 produces a 5V output from a minimum 2.7V input voltage. The LTC3221 family's combination of low quiescent current and regulated output make them ideal for low power memory backup supplies, automotive sensors, RF transmitters and handheld devices, in addition to general purpose 2 AA cell to 3.3V supply or Li-Ion/Polymer to 5V supply conversion.

The LTC3221/-3.3/-5's high 600kHz switching frequency enables the use of tiny external ceramic capacitors, saving space and cost. Low external parts count (one flying capacitor and two bypass capacitors at VIN and VOUT) and the low-profile DFN package achieves an extremely compact solution for space-constrained applications. Other features of the LTC3221/-3.3/-5 include load disconnect from the input during shutdown and short-circuit protection.

The LTC3221EDC, LTC3221EDC-3.3 and LTC3203EDC-5 are available in the low-profile 6-lead DFN (2mm x 2mm x 0.75mm) package. Pricing starts at $1.60 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
