Radiation-Hardened Step Motors Now Available in Seven Frame Sizes

Designed to survive prolonged exposure to radiation environments

ROHNERT PARK, CA -- Empire Magnetics' RH Series radiation-hardened step motors are now available in seven standard step motor frame sizes: 5, 11, 15, 17, 23, 34 and 42 to satisfy a variety of radiation-environment applications.

High energy, gamma radiation particles will attack non-metallic materials in a motor, and lubricants, varnish, lamination bonding, and cable insulation will all deteriorate over time and finally crumble. These 1.8 degree step motors are constructed with the best available radiation-resistant materials to assure the longest possible service life in a radiation environment. They feature high temperature windings for maximum reliability, and are compatible with most bi-polar drive systems.

Lower power models are available with a torque range of 0.2 to 26 oz-in, moderate power models with a torque range of 60 to 450 oz-in., and high power models with a torque range of 400 to 1600 oz-in. RH series step motors are rated for a total accumulated dose of 2x108 rads as standard, with ratings to 1x109 rads available on a custom basis. Custom variations are available including AC motors, assemblies and complete radiation-hardened motion control systems.
