Larson Electronics' Magnalight.com Releases Step Down Transformer for use with Linear and Non-Linear Loads

Magnalight.com announced today the release of the MGS-30KVA-6X120-2X240 a heavy duty power distribution substation which provides operators with the ability to operate equipment requiring linear and non-linear current from the same power distribution system. This 30 KVA portable transformer converts three phase 480 VAC electrical power to single phase 120 VAC and 240 VAC (208Y), and distributes power through seven 120 volt receptacles and two Hubble 50 amp 240 volt twist lock receptacles.

The MGS-30KVA-6X120-2X240 power substation converts 480 VAC three phase current to 120 VAC and 240 (208Y) secondary output to allow operation of equipment such as motors which require linear current as well as lighting or computers which require non-linear electrical current. This portable power distribution system is rated at 30 KVA and allows operators to tap into and step down 480 volt primary power sources to useable standard 120 and 240 voltages in order to provide power for equipment in locations where normal grid power is inaccessible or undesirable. Popularly used in the construction of new structures as a distribution center for power produced by onsite 480 VAC generators, these step down transformers offer operators the versatility of both linear and non-linear loading. This capability lets operators supply power to electric motors as well as the lighting and computers often used in temporary site management offices from the same transformer/distribution center. Connection to 480 volt power sources is through 20 feet of number 6 SO cord connected to a fused ON/OFF disconnect switch, which in turn controls power to the onboard 30 KVA transformer. This unit steps down this 480 Volt current to 120 VAC and 240 (208Y) current and distributes it through six GFCI protected 20 amp 120 volt receptacles, one 30 amp GFCI protected 120 VAC receptacle, and 2 CS6369L Hubbell 240 volt 50 amp 3 pole twist lock receptacles . The Hubble receptacles used with this transformer offer heavy duty protection and secure connection with a 50 amp current rating for heavy loads, twist lock plug insertion for secure connection, and 3 pole - 4 wire grounding for safe operation. Additional protection is provided through the inclusion of onboard circuit breakers and a 125 amp rated control panel for reliable load handling capability. This power distribution system offers durability in the form of a 1/8" thick diamond plate transformer mounting platform, weatherproof construction, and a heavy gauge square steel support frame. Easy transportability is provided in the form of integral skid pockets and a top located lifting eyelet for convenient fork lift or crane lifting and transport. This portable power transformer/distribution system is ideal for plant turnarounds, new construction projects, powering explosion proof lighting and equipment, and anywhere a versatile and reliable method of tapping into 480 VAC power sources is needed.

"When operators are looking to manage temporary pumps and other equipment, where some operate on 480V and other run on 208V or 120V, power distribution substations like the MGS-30KVA-6X120-2X240 are extremely convenient," said Rob Bresnahan with Larson Electronics' Magnalight.com. "If operators provide their motor horsepower requirements and specifications of the other tools they need on the site, we can build a temporary power solution to meet their needs."
