Exar Announces Single and Dual Channel 1 Amp Step-Down Converters Achieving Over 90% Efficiency Across the Load Range
FREMONT, Calif., -- Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR) unveiled today the XRP6658 and XRP6668, respectively a single and dual channel step-down converter capable of delivering up to 1 Amp output current per channel. These devices represent the latest addition to Exar's line of market proven low voltage step-down regulators.
"Supporting a 2.5V to 5.5V input voltage range traditional of Lithium-Ion battery operated portable applications, the XRP6658 and XRP6668 are capable of achieving conversion efficiencies as high as 97% and better than 90% with load currents from below 1mA to the full 1 Amp," said Eric Pittana, director of marketing, Power Product Line. "The XRP6658 and XRP6668 pack in a small form factor one and two highly efficient and performing regulators that need minimal external components to operate. With quiescent currents rated at 15MuA and 30MuA, these devices are amongst the best-in-class converters."
Key Product Features
Both the XRP6658 (single channel) and the XRP6668 (dual channel) are synchronous current mode PWM step-down (buck) converters capable of delivering up to 1 Amp of current per channel and optimized for portable battery-operated operations.
Based on a current mode 1.5MHz constant frequency PWM control scheme, the devices reduce the overall component count and solution footprint as well as provide a low output voltage ripple and excellent line and load regulation. Both devices also implement a PFM mode to improve light load efficiency as well as a 100% duty cycle LDO mode. Output voltage is adjustable to as low as 0.6V with better than 3% accuracy while a low quiescent current supports the most stringent battery operation conditions. Built-in over temperature and under voltage lock-out protections insure safe operations under abnormal operating conditions.
Exar also extended its line of precision voltage references with the addition of the XRP431L. This 0.5% highly precise voltage reference circuit provides a 1.24V to 18V adjustable reference. The XRP431L is thermally stable at 20ppm/C (degrees) temperature coefficient and only requires a mere 100MuA to operate while supporting up to 100mA.
