Shindengen Introduces the MD5001-a 1A Step Down Converter Power IC

Shindengen America, Inc. introduces the MD5001-a 1A step down IC converter. The MD5001 is a low cost device containing a control IC and main switch MOSFET on a single chip SOP-8 package. Despite its small package the MD5001 has over 90% efficiency. The input voltage range is 4.5v to 14v and the output voltage is 0.8v to 12v with a maximum output current of 1A. The MD5001 features remote on/off, overcurrent protection and built-in thermal protection

The MD5001 is recommended for designers who have employed regulators but find thermal issues to be a serious problem and have insufficient space to fit a cooling fan. The MD5001 is particularly useful in, for example, an application that previously employed a regulator for 5V input and 1.8v output at a load of .8A but needs much higher energy efficiency. Battery operated hand-held devices are a perfect application for the MD5001.

Shindengen's MD series is a complete line of power IC converters designed to provide a wide range of input and output combinations. The flexible nature of the product line allows the designer to customize the product to fit the needs of the application with wide-range input and adjustable output.

The price for the MD5001 is $.97 in OEM quantities.
