Smart Sonic Corporation (Canoga Park, CA) has developed a unique Defoamer product that allows 440-R SMT Detergent to be used effectively in spray-in-air type stencil cleaner machines. Smart Sonic introduced 440-R SMT Detergent in 1990 for use with ultrasonics, which lead to ultrasonic technology replacing spray-in-air systems as the preferred method for cleaning SMT solder paste stencils. Until now, excessive foaming prohibited the use of 440-R SMT Detergent in spray machines. Smart Sonic's new Defoamer product eliminates the foaming concerns without diminishing cleaning efficiency. The stencil cleaning process has been identified as the most hazardous and with the greatest potential environmental impact of any process associated with SMT assembly.
