Innovative Gardner Bender Colorcode(TM) Plastic and Insulated Metal Staples Simplify Fastener Selection

MILWAUKEE (JUNE 2003) - Choosing the right fastener for the job just got a lot easier, thanks to Gardner Bender's new ColorCode(TM) series of plastic and insulated metal staples. Both types of staples are color-coded to match increasingly popular color-coded NM cable: white for 14 gauge, yellow for 12 gauge, and orange for 10 gauge.

Along with making it easier for electricians to choose the right fastener, Gardner Bender ColorCode(TM) staples simplify inventory management and help electrical inspectors review their work efficiently. The resulting installation also presents a clean and professional appearance.

Plastic staples are available in a small, 1/2" size for two-conductor cable and a large, 3/4" size for three-conductor cable. Insulated metal staples are also available in small and large. The small size is 1/2" wide, with 1" legs, and the large, 9/16" wide, with 1 1/4" legs. All Gardner Bender plastic staples and a selection of metal staples are UL- and CSA-listed and built for long service.

ColorCode(TM) plastic staples feature high-density, polyethylene straps for strength and include an ultraviolet additive that prevents deterioration or burning. Nails are zinc-plated to resist rust and corrosion and both may be pounded simultaneously, making starting and driving easy. Smooth saddles
provide superior holding power while protecting cable insulation from damage during installation. Minimum nail exposure and maximum pull-out resistance are assured by special recesses in the plastic designed to hold the nail heads.

ColorCode(TM) insulated metal staples-an industry first-feature heavy-duty, 12-gauge carbon steel construction delivering maximum strength and holding power. High-impact, PVC coating is applied evenly using a dipping process and offers superior dielectric performance at 750+ volts per mil. Sharp,
offset points make staple legs easy to start and drive straight, while the PVC coating helps protect against insulation damage due to overdriving and mis-hits.

Both types of innovative Gardner Bender ColorCode(TM) series staples are made in the U.S.A. and will be appreciated by electrical industry personnel who have for years used various, home-grown methods to differentiate fasteners in the field. With the one-of-a-kind ColorCode(TM) staples series, all that's
necessary is matching the fastener color to the NM cable gauge. Simple, fast, and virtually foolproof.
