Standard-Setting Microcontrollers Nominated for EDN Magazine's 2006 Innovation of the Year

Geneva, February 7, 2007 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a leading innovator among semiconductor manufacturers, has been selected from a field of hundreds as a finalist for this year's EDN Innovator/Innovation Awards. ST's STR910F family of microcontrollers appears on the shortlist for the Microcontroller/Digital Signal Controller of the year. Instituted in 1990, EDN's annual Innovation Awards honor outstanding electronic products and professionals, as selected by a peer jury of engineers and engineering managers worldwide.

ST's STR910F microcontrollers are first in bringing the powerful ARM9E processor core to a level of low-cost solutions using Ethernet-ready microcontrollers with embedded Flash memory and large SRAM. The innovative single-chip concept replaces what typically required several costly ICs, integrating high computational performance, digital signal processing, low-power consumption, large embedded memories, and many system-tracking and monitoring tasks.

The STR910F chips make it economical for a wide range of products to be networked with a central system or other devices via wired or wireless Ethernet, ushering in a new generation of point-of-sale equipment, vending machines, patient monitors, industrial controls, building automation, security applications, and other industrial applications that are fully network accessible.

"Our 2006 roster of Innovation finalists includes great products across the analog, digital, software, and test spaces. We received a tremendous set of mixed-signal ASSP entries, and more processor entries than ever," states EDN Editor-In-Chief Maury Wright. "I look forward to the rigorous voting process and know that the winners will be top notch."

This year's program features 17 categories: Innovator of the Year, Analog ICs, ASSPs
and SoCs, Communication ICs, Digital ICs and Programmable Logic, Digital SoC/IP, EDA (Design and Implementation), EDA (Verification and Analysis), Embedded Systems, Power ICs, Power Systems and Modules, Processors, Sensors and Components, Software, Test and Measurement (Broad Application), Test and Measurement (Application Specific), and Best Contributed Article.

In the next few weeks, EDN's worldwide audience of electronics professionals is encouraged to use their ballot to help select the ultimate winners online at www.edn.com/innovation. Winners will be announced at the 17th Annual EDN Innovation Awards ceremony on April 2, 2007 in San Jose, CA.
