I & E's Vandal Resistant, Stainless Steel OEM Keyboards For Kiosk Environments

Sparta, NJ, April 16, 2002...Instruments and Equipment Co. (I & E) has released the IE700 stainless steel keyboard, the latest addition to this company's full lines of hardware and components for the original equipment manufacturer, point-of-sale, and information technology markets. Specifically engineered for unsupervised public access kiosk applications, the rapid, reliable and responsive keyboard meets NEMA-4, -4X and -12
specifications. It accordingly protects against corrosion, dust, falling rain, splashing and hose-directed water. Moreover, the 66-position keyboard's operation is impervious to the formation of ice on the enclosure.

Featuring a stainless steel fascia and keytops to guard against willful destruction and harsh environmental factors, I & E's keyboard is targeted for use in such varied applications as ticket vending machines, gas stations, cash machines (ATMs), Internet terminials and information kiosks at universities, shopping malls, hotels, airports, railway stations and other public areas. The unit's full size, fireproof, metal keys cannot be dislodged from the front, or defaced by removing key covers. To prevent tampering, Ctrl-Alt-Delete and Windows keys are disabled, and replaced with rear panel buttons to restrict these functions to kiosk service technicians. Further attesting to its vandal and weather resistant properties, the high quality, low-cost keyboard's robust front panel is made of 2.5 mm stainless steel, and features an operating temperature range of -40° to +90° C (-400° F to +194° F).
Its keys, which operate firm tactile feel, short travel switches, are marked with in-house laser engraved legends for readability, long life, and to accommodate foreign or custom
variants. They further are certified to deliver over 1.5-million cycles. The small-footprint IE700, measuring only 13.00"(L) x 5.00"(W) x .75"(D), easily mounts into an enclosure or panel, and is provided with 5-pin DIN or PS/2 connection output cables that plug directly into the host computer for normal keyboard operations.
