Stainless Steel Electrode produces cosmetically appealing welds.

Press Release Summary:

SelectAlloy 316LSi-C gas-shielded, metal cored, austenitic stainless steel electrode has augmented silicon content that improves bead wetting to produce cosmetically appealing weld. Product, composed of 19.5% chromium, 12.5% nickel, 2.5% molybdenum, and 0.8% silicon, has max carbon content of 0.03%. Molybdenum promotes resistance to pitting and creep, while degree of carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation while increasing intergranular corrosion resistance.

Original Press Release:

New Stainless Steel Electrode Improves Bead Wetting and Cosmetic Appeal

Fort Loramie, OH - Select-Arc, Inc. has introduced a gas-shielded, metal cored, austenitic stainless steel electrode that is designed with augmented silicon content to improve bead wetting and produce a more cosmetically appealing weld.

SelectAlloy 316LSi-C is composed of 19.5% chromium, 12.5% nickel, 2.5% molybdenum, 0.8% silicon and a maximum carbon content of 0.03%. The presence of molybdenum improves resistance to pitting and provides increased creep resistance. This electrode's low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation and makes it more resistant to intergranular corrosion.

SelectAlloy 316LSi-C is well suited for making small butt, lap and fillet welds on thin material at elevated travel speeds. This wire is utilized to weld Type 316 stainless and other similar alloys such as ASTM A743 and A744 as well as Types CF-8M and CF-3M. It is also widely used in the pulp and paper industry, chemical and textile processing equipment, furnace parts and in parts exposed to marine environments.

SelectAlloy 316LSi-C provides higher deposition rates and more controlled penetration than the equivalent solid wire. This electrode handles poor fit up, delivers a smooth, spray arc transfer and produces little or no slag and virtually no spatter.
