Stackpole Electronics, Inc. Adds Three Shielded Product Series to its Power Inductor Offering

RALEIGH, N.C. (January 9, 2007) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has further expanded its power inductor product line with the addition of three new magnetically shielded series. The new PSDB, SFM and PDRH Series provide design engineers with solutions for designs limited by height, footprint and performance.

Power inductors are inherently bulky and normally generate magnetic fields that can damage sensitive components nearby. As the trend towards miniaturization in electronics continues, circuit designers will demand better performance from smaller parts. Stackpole's new magnetically shielded power inductors products provide greater versatility by delivering excellent electrical performance in a variety of package sizes and configurations without sacrifices in cost or performance.

"Power inductors are notoriously problematic in circuit design because of their size and inflexibility," says Mark Hunnell, a member of Stackpole's engineering team. "With Stackpole's new PSDB, SFM and PDRH inductors, design engineers are given the tools to continue the miniaturization trend without the typical tradeoffs."

The PSDB Series features an electrode connected directly to the ferrite core. With inductance values from 1.3ìH to 1000ìH and current capabilities up to 10A, the high-power and high-saturation design of the PSDB makes it an ideal choice for DC-DC conversion. To provide design flexibility where profile limitations apply, the PSDB is available in three heights from 3mm to 5mm. Furthermore, the square shape design and tape and reel packaging make automatic insertion easy to implement. Typical pricing is $0.34 each. Lead times are eight to 10 weeks, with samples available in three to four weeks.

The SFM Series combines excellent DC resistance with large current handling to make one of the most efficient power inductors on the market. The SFM is available in six sizes with height dimensions as low as 1.8mm to ensure the design engineer has the necessary freedom to achieve desired performance in the available space. The SFM is available in values from 1ìH to 680ìH, with current handling to 7.7A, and is suitable for consumer electronics and notebook computers. SFM pricing is typically $0.28 each and is packaged on tape and reel. Lead times are eight to 10 weeks, with samples available in three to four weeks.

Finally, the PDRH Series packs incredible performance into a miniature package. The footprint is less than 4mm per side and it only 1.8mm tall. The PDRH also features an electrode attached directly to the ferrite core, providing inductance values from 1ìH to 100ìH with current ratings up to 1.5A. This combination of small size and high performance makes the PDRH an ideal choice for many applications, including notebook computers and LCD screens. Pricing for the PDRH is around $0.26 each and is packaged on tape and reel. Lead times are eight to 10 weeks, with samples available in three to four weeks.
