SRT Group Announces Next-Gen Satellite Modem, Presents on Cybersecurity at Satellite 2015

Emerging leader in satellite and Wi-Fi technologies announces Afterburner, an ASIC-based satellite modem developed for the Thuraya Telecommunications network

WASHINGTON, -- SRT Group, which develops mission-critical satellite, Wi-Fi, and cellular technologies and services, is announcing development of the smallest, most feature-packed satellite modem on the market at this year's Satellite 2015 conference, March 16-19 in Washington, DC.

Afterburner represents the next generation of SRT's VIPturbo satellite modem, which it developed in partnership with MSS operator Thuraya Telecommunications. The smallest, most cost-effective single-board module available today, the VIPturbo is easily customizable and capable of delivering every service on the Thuraya network. It enables product developers to accelerate development timelines and lower costs for new satellite products and services.

"VIPturbo is already the smallest, most feature-packed modem on the market," said SRT CMO JR Russell. "But Afterburner goes even further. Compared to the VIPturbo, Afterburner is ASIC-based, delivering a 60 percent reduction in size and 50 percent reduction in power from the VIPturbo. It will exceed all competitive products in terms of size, weight, price, security and performance."

Also at Satellite 2015, SRT CTO Conrad Smith will present on a cybersecurity panel on best practices to prevent satcomms hacking. In addition, SRT executives will be available to answer questions about current satellite industry trends and issues.

Based in Florida, SRT is a 100 percent U.S. operation that has grown its workforce by more than 30 percent over the past year. In addition, it recently opened an office in the greater Washington, DC region.

The new Washington office employs engineers with expertise in MSS L-band, 802.11 and 4G technology. The office also allows for on-site training instruction in SRT's communications technology.
